Aline (McDowell) Shepard was born February 25, 1932 as the fourth child of Alex and Gertrude (Moore) McDowell. She was born and raised in (Doak Springs) Lee County, Texas across the creek where Mt. Olive Baptist Church was established, and where the family lived.

Later, Aline met Sterling Shepard, Jr. and they were joined in marriage on October 28, 1958. This union birthed two sons, Roddie Mack Scott-Shepard and Sterling Shepard III. They all resided in Austin, Texas until her demise.
