Bernice Jackson Obituary

Bernice Wolridge Jackson was born, May 30, 1948, to Minnie Lou (Wolridge) Farr and Roosevelt Coulter, Sr. in Rosebud(Falls County), Texas.

Bernice “Dolly” graduated from Doak Springs High School in the class of 1966 as Valedictorian. She excelled greatly in academics and sports. In her earlier years she worked at Texas Instruments and later started a long career at Walmart in Giddings, Texas. She started working at Mary Lee Foundation where her passion for caring for others led her to become a foster parent. Bernice dedicated 30 plus years of her life rearing children and caring for adults with disabilities. 

Bernice started her spiritual journey at a very young age at New Hope A.M.E. Church in Lexington, Texas.  She faithfully attended Globe Hill Baptist Church in Giddings, Texas.  She looked forward to tuning in to the virtual services of St. John College Heights Church in Austin, Texas every Sunday.  Bernice loved to praise and worship God through spiritual songs and music.  A couple of her favorite songs were "There’s a Leak in This Old Building" and "God’s Grace".

Bernice “Dolly” married Henry D. Jackson, Sr. and to this union 4 children were born, Henry D. Jackson, Jr., Sandra Kaye Jackson, Dana Yvette Jackson Matson, and Michael Jackson.

Bernice “Dolly” loved spending time with family and friends, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing spades, cooking, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Minnie Lou (Wolridge) Farr and Roosevelt Coulter, Sr.; brothers, Frank Farr, Robert Farr, Marvin Coulter, Roosevelt Coulter, Jr., and Johnny Coulter; sisters, Agnes Farr and Brenda Griffin; stepsister, Marilyn Johnson and great-nephew, Jordin Wells.

Bernice “Dolly” leaves to cherish her memories a host of family members including: her children, Henry D. (Paula) Jackson, Jr., Sandra Jackson of Lincoln, Texas, Dana Yvette Jackson Matson and Michael Jackson of Lexington, Texas; her “Golden Girls Sisters”, Arvester Johnson of Caldwell, Texas, Brenda (Johnnie) Green of Lexington, Texas and Beverly Baker of Round Rock, Texas; step-siblings, Shirley Griffin, Sandra Whitfield, and Artist Whitfield, Jr., grandchildren, Jeremy, Tempestt, Jamal, Jamil, Jeremiah, Curtis, Jamie, Sean, Cierra, and Juanetta, great grandchildren; Konnor, Jordin, Shiloh, Ailani, Chayce, CJ, Aaliyah, and Alanna; God-sons, Ryan Green and Theo Trimble; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
