Beverly Jean Scurry was born on Monday, August 12, 1957, in Giddings, Lee County, Texas to parents Alice Brown Scurry and Wilce “California” Henry, Jr. Beverly was affectionately called “Hollywood” by all who loved her.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was raised in the Giddings area, where she attended and graduated from Giddings High School.
Beverly married Marvin “Jap” Joiner, and they resided in Austin, Texas. Family was a strong source of her strength and love. She loved her nieces and nephews, step-children, and grandchildren. She continued her Christian journey as a member of Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church of Giddings. She regularly attended services until her health presented challenges that prevented her regular attendance. She was employed with the State of Texas, where she retired. She enjoyed family gatherings, reading, and shopping.
On Sunday, October 27, 2024, Beverly went on to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother, Lavada Bradshaw Brown; and two brothers, Willie George Scurry and Michael Scurry. She leaves to cherish her life and memory: her beloved husband, Marvin “Jap” Joiner of Austin, Texas; step-children, LaDressa Crawford(Dwain) of Giddings, Texas, Monica Gibson of Dime Box, Texas and Vuhn Joiner of Lincoln, Texas; 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; three brothers, David Scurry(Cheryl) of Cypress, Texas, Abram “Bill” Scurry(Jackie) of Katy, Texas and Frank Scurry of San Diego, California; siblings-in-law, Elvis Lewis(Velma), Curtis Lewis, Beverly Lewis and Roscener Joiner-Wilson; and host of special nephews, cousins, and friends.
