Bobby Martin Obituary

On June 7, 1953, Bobby Clark Martin was born the seventh of seven children to the late Eddie Clark and Versie Taylor Martin. What a joy it must have been to welcome Bobby home as the baby of the family.

At an early age, Bobby became a member of Shiloh Methodist Church in Winchester, Texas. After the church was torn down, he often attended worship across the street at Shiloh Baptist Church, where he faithfully assisted Pastor Leo Taylor in any way he could. Bobby lived a life rooted in gratitude, always thankful to God for all things.

Bobby received his formal education at Randolph High School before transferring to LaGrange High School, where he excelled academically and athletically, especially on the basketball court. He proudly graduated with the Class of 1971.

In 1976, Bobby enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country in Germany before returning to San Antonio, Texas, where he was stationed at Brooks Air Force Base. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1978, he made San Antonio his home.

Bobby began his professional career at GECU (Government Employees Credit Union) in San Antonio. He later worked for Giddings State Home and School and Kerrville Bus Company, traveling extensively as a Greyhound driver. Driven by his passion for education and mentoring youth, Bobby pursued a career with Giddings ISD. During his time there, he served as a paraeducator and truancy officer, while also dedicating many evenings to supporting students by running the clock at sporting events. His daily presence in the halls left a lasting impact on both students and staff alike.

Believing retirement sounded appealing, Bobby stepped away from work in 2021/2022. However, his desire to continue making a difference led him back to education at his alma mater, LaGrange ISD. There, he once again served as a paraeducator, continuing to lead by example, build meaningful relationships, and give his very best to everyone he encountered. A man of great stature and even greater purpose, Bobby fulfilled his mission of positively impacting the lives of others.

In 1983, Bobby met and courted the love of his life, Kathleen Fillmore Oliver. They were united in marriage on February 11, 1984. From this union, their son Bobby Edwin Martin (affectionately known as “Lil Bobby” or “2”) was born. Together, Bobby and Kathy raised Dywarne Terry Oliver, Jonathan James Oliver, and Bobby in a loving and supportive home. Bobby was more than a father—he was a coach, mentor, and role model who took immense pride in raising strong men.

Though Bobby has departed this earthly life, his legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 42 years, Kathy; his children, Andre LaMont Martin, Andrea Gail Martin, Bobby Edwin Martin, Dywarne Terry Oliver, and Jonathan James “J” Oliver; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons; his siblings, P.J. Martin (Callie), Roger E. Martin (Vanetta), and Franklin D. Martin (Auzetta), all of San Antonio, Texas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

As we close this chapter of Bobby’s life, may his legacy inspire us all to walk tall, fill big shoes, love genuinely, and live in a way that positively impacts others.
