Deacon Bobby Earl Nelson Washington was born to Jessie Mae Nelson and Thomas H. Washington, May 5th, 1944 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was the only son of two children. Raised and taught by Joe Edward Nelson, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a boy. His mother moved to Houston where he spent his childhood years graduating from Evan E. Worthing High School. He joined the United States Army in 1962 where he served for 4 years before returning to his mother in Houston.
He married his beloved soulmate, Bobbie Jean Pendleton Washington, November 5, 1966. To this union, one beautiful daughter, Sheronda Cay Washington, and 2 devoted sons, Chester JoKeith Washington and Ceddrixx Davidd Washington were born.
Bobby was an incredibly dedicated father and avid sports lover supporting and coaching his children through high school and college in basketball and marching band. He made longtime connections and friends serving as a Southwestern Atlantic Conference official for 32 years. He refereed in some of the biggest football stadiums, including the Astrodome, Super Dome, Giants Stadium and Kyle Field, to name a few. He was also a diligent provider and hard worker; retiring after 37 years as Postmaster with the United States Postal Service. After retirement, his continued drive and entrepreneurial spirit led him to successfully start a trucking hot shot company, BSCC, named after his beloved wife and children.
His latter years were fulfilled dedicating his time and resources to his church, serving as Deacon and Usher at Evangelist Temple COGIC. He deeply enjoyed family fellowship spending ample time at sports events, birthdays, business ventures, and holidays with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to which he shared individual special relationships.
His love and generosity to his family was unmatched. His vibrant, jovial personality and inquisitive nature made him a social butterfly. He made many friends and special relationships from sharing many wise conversations throughout his years. He was always ready to help those in need, family, friend, or neighbor. We will forever miss and appreciate him always being just a phone call away. We know he is resting peacefully and happy and we will see him again in Heaven.
He is preceded in death by his Mother, Jessie Mae Nelson and his father, Joe Edward Nelson.
He leaves his cherished memories with: a devoted and faithful wife, Bobbie Jean Washington; a sister, Vanessa “Cookie” Nelson, a step-sister, Wunderdul Washington, a step-mother, Dorothy Washington; one beautiful daughter, Sheronda Cay Washington, two devoted sons, Chester JoKeith Washington, Ceddrixx Davidd “Boo” Washington; ten grandchildren, Michesha Washington, Denzel Washington, Chelsea Washington, Dareisha Washington, Kenidi Washington, Montell Washington, Malek Washington, Morgan Washington, Ceddrixx Washington, and Dylan Washington, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
