Charles Lee Obituary

Charles Edward Lee was born on September 11, 1949, in Lindale, Texas, to his parents,Leon Lee and Lenora (Kelly) Lee. He was one of ten children, growing up alongside his siblings: Leory Lee, Roger Elder, Lovings Lee, Verdall Washington, Effie Hughes, Cornell Buchann, Wanda Sanders, Christine Henson, and Viola Mosley. Tragedy touched his life at a young age, when his mother passed away when he was just around ten years old. Despite this profound loss, Charles found strength in the love and support of his extended family. He was cared for by his relatives, including Annie, Mattie, and Sister, who helped shape the man he would become. Through these experiences, he learned resilience, the importance of perseverance, and the unbreakable bonds of family—values that became the foundation of his character and guided him throughout his life.

He attended Dunbar School before going on to Jackson High School, where he played football and developed a competitive spirit that stayed with him always. As a young man, Charles ventured to Austin, Texas, with his sister Verdell. It was here, surrounded by music and creativity, that he discovered his own musical talent. His passion for music led him to play the drums, and it was even
said that he had the incredible opportunity to perform with the legendary Ray Charles for a short time. He also explored the world of boxing, another testament to his strength and determination.

A man of many skills, Charles was a dedicated laborer with expertise in various trades, including construction, mechanics, and landscaping. He took pride in his work, and for over 25 years, he was a valued employee at Evins Consultants, where his hard work and reliability made a lasting impact.

Charles was a loving father to his four children, Lasonya Matts, Lametrica Matts, Charlene Lee, and Lisa Lee, whom he shared with Carolyn Matts. His love and devotion to his family only grew when he married Rose Sims in 2003, embracing her children—Barry Clinton, Teresa Clinton, Yolanda Clinton, and LaJune Sims—as his own. Together, Charles and Rose built a life in Giddings, Texas, where they created a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Beyond his work and family, Charles had a deep love for the Texas Longhorns, rarely missing a chance to cheer on his team. He found joy in working with his hands, whether it was building something from the ground up or fixing anything that needed mending. Music remained close to his heart, and he was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved.

Charles Edward Lee was a man who lived with purpose, worked with passion, and loved with his whole heart. His legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched, and though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
