Daisy Walker Obituary

Daisy Laverne Joiner Walker made her joyful arrival on Monday, June 4, 1934, in Giddings, Texas. She was the fifth of seven children born to Henry and Loretta (Moore) Joiner. She graduated from Old L.C. Anderson High School in the Class of 1952 and soon after moved to Austin, where she built a life rooted in service and love. She was a proud member of the Old Anderson Alumni Association.

Daisy married the late Roosevelt Walker. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Carl and Charlotte.  Daisy’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family as she dedicated her professional life to caring for others. She began her career as an aide at Brackenridge Hospital before transitioning to work with special needs students at Austin I.S.D. Her compassionate nature touched many lives until her retirement from teaching in May of 1996.

Daisy accepted Christ at an early age and began her spiritual journey with Bethel Union Baptist Church in Giddings, Texas. After relocating to Austin, she united with David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in 1950, under the leadership of Pastor W.I. Rector. As a faithful and active member for decades, Daisy served on the usher board and participated in Mission 1 and 2 of the women’s auxiliaries. She was also a committed member of the Rebecca Bible Study group. In 2024, she was honored among the phenomenal seniors of the Platinum Plus group at David Chapel—a recognition that brought her great joy. Her involvement continued until her health declined.

Daisy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Spending time with her family was paramount. She especially cherished moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She delighted in shopping trips to Highland Mall, browsing JC Penney’s aisles, enjoying meals at Luby’s, and making regular visits to HEB. Her favorite pastimes included cheering on her beloved San Antonio Spurs and watching television programs such as *Wheel of Fortune*, *Family Feud*, *Mike & Molly*, and *Back in the Day*. She also enjoyed watching various church services on TV.

Daisy was a proud member of Delta Friends, spending many happy hours at the Conley-Guerrero Senior Center with dear friends. As a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Daisy’s life was a testament to faith, family, and community.

Daisy lived 91 joyous years and peacefully entered eternal life on Thursday, July 10, 2025, in Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Loretta Joiner; two brothers, Percy Joiner Sr. and Edward Joiner; one sister, Jewel Crittendon; and one nephew, Percy Joiner Jr.

She leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories:  her two children, Carl Joiner(Linda) and Charlotte Walker both of Austin, Texas; three siblings, Lorene Cook, Kathan Rich(Pastor Ivie J.) and Bonnie Joiner(Christine) all of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren, Breon Sr., Dion, Chevon, Laron, Stephon and Jasmine; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a close cousin, Sarah Arnold; a treasured friend, Marva Watrous; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Daisy Laverne Walker’s legacy lives on through those who knew and loved her. May her memory bring comfort and peace to all whose lives she touched.
