Dana Galloway Obituary

Dana Gene Galloway, a beloved son, brother, father, nephew, cousin, veteran, humanitarian, and friend to many, passed away leaving behind a legacy of compassion, quiet strength, and boundless optimism. Born on March 14, 1968, in Austin, Texas, to Mary L. Williams and Larry L. Galloway, Dana lived a life marked by intelligence, integrity, and a heart dedicated to the well-being of others.

From an early age, Dana stood out—not just for his brilliance in academics, but also for his athletic talent. He excelled in football, basketball, and track at Dobie Middle School and Lanier High School. His dedication on the field earned him a football scholarship to Howard Payne University, where he continued to shine.

Following college, Dana answered the call to serve his country and spent four honorable years in the United States Army. After his service, he continued his pursuit of knowledge and became a certified IT Specialist. Yet, his passions extended far beyond the professional realm.

Dana was an introvert with a love for people—a rare and beautiful combination. He found joy in lifting others up, quietly guiding those around him toward success. A devoted fisherman, world traveler, proud foodie, and die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, Dana was a man of wide-ranging interests and deep connections. He was a true music lover whose playlists were as eclectic and soulful as he was.

Dana used his knowledge to educate others in financial literacy and build businesses that aimed not only at success but at service. He founded LIFEBall, a nonprofit organization in Houston that provides support to fellow veterans—a mission close to his heart. At the time of his passing, Dana had been accepted into the University of Texas McCombs School of Business to pursue a postgraduate program in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Business Applications—a journey he was deeply excited about. But God had other plans and called him to graduate to a higher place!

Dana's greatest love, however, was for his family. A proud Austinite to the core, he never missed a chance to boast about his roots, often saying with a smile, "ATX23. Springdale Hills, maaan!" He cherished family gatherings, sponsoring dinners that brought generations together around the table. His love was inclusive, generous, and unconditional.

Among the greatest joys of Dana’s life was discovering and meeting his biological daughter, Ms. Grace “Gracie” Barnes, in 2015. From the moment they met, they shared a bond. Dana often described Gracie as “the most beautiful thing I've ever seen” and “one who outshines the stars.”  But more than anything, it was knowing her—the sweet, gentle soul she is—that made him most proud.

Dana leaves behind a vast community of family, friends, and loved ones who will miss his warmth, wit, and unwavering support. He would not want a list of names, for fear of leaving anyone out. Just know: if you were part of his life, you were loved deeply and sincerely.

His light, optimism, and enduring kindness will live on in the many lives he touched. We celebrate Dana Gene Galloway—an eternal optimist, an encourager, a quiet warrior for good, and a man who lived with purpose, pride, and profound love.
