Donald Wayne Hudgen was born on October 11, 1967, in Washington County, Texas, to the late Johnnie Hudgen Sr. and Viola (Brown) Hudgen.
At an early age, Donald accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at St. John Baptist Church. He later maintained his membership at Zion Hill Baptist Church, where his faith remained an important part of his life.
Donald met the love of his life, Tammy, in 1985. Their love grew strong, and they were united in marriage on June 1, 1990. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and commitment.
He began his career at Lee Memorial Hospital in Giddings, Texas. On December 26, 1990, he transitioned to Bluebonnet Electric, where he remained a dedicated and hardworking employee for many years, forming lasting relationships along the way.
Donald truly enjoyed life. He had a welcoming spirit and always wore a smile. In his leisure time, he loved spending time with family, friends, and colleagues. He never met a stranger—his warm personality made everyone feel at home. He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, working his land, and caring for his cows. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and always kept the faith that they would make it to the Super Bowl.
On April 20, 2026, Donald Wayne Hudgen peacefully departed this life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Hudgen Sr. and Viola Hudgen, and his brothers: Johnnie Hudgen Jr., Nathan Hudgen, Eddie Hudgen, Kevin Hudgen, and Herman Hudgen.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving and devoted wife, Tammy Hudgen of Ledbetter, Texas; his children, Donald Phoenix, Daniear Hudgen (Tiffany) of Dime Box, Texas, Shurekkia Hudgen (Larry) and Anastasha Andrade of Dallas, Texas; his beloved grandchildren, Zara Adams, Ashton Andrade, Meagan Johnson, Dillian Johnson, Marisol Moreno, German Moreno Jr., Lindsey Dawson, Avery Hudgen, Madison Hudgen, Kambree Phoenix, Keeli Phoenix, Davien Phoenix, Javaris Phoenix, Dontrey Phoenix, Todrin Phoenix, Lexus Phoenix, and Diamond Phoenix. He is also survived by his sisters: Patricia Woods of Burton, Texas; Barbara Phoenix (Tommie) of Round Top, Texas; and Gloria Monette of Houston, Texas; and his brother, Melvin Hudgen of Burton, Texas. Donald also leaves behind a special aunt and uncle, Rose Pollard (Harold) of Houston, Texas; his Bluebonnet Electric family, who lovingly knew him as “Cat Daddy”; his honorary children, who knew him as “Pops”; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Donald’s legacy of love, kindness, and strength will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
