On November 10, 1962 a beautiful baby boy by the name of Douglas Eugene McDowell was born to the parents of Eva and Erma Bethany McDowell. Douglas was the youngest of 5 children.
Douglas accepted Christ at a young age and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Marvin Smith Pastor. He sang in the choir especially at Homecoming ¨Lord Don't Move My Mountain¨ . He grew up in the Doak Springs community. He attended Lexington ISD and graduated in May of 1981. He participated in FFA, Honorary Mention,Track, All District UIL One Act Play, High School Choir, State Choir, Teacher Aide, and the famous Singing Christmas Tree. He loved horseback riding, dancing, and singing. He worked at Austin State School.
In a peaceful sleep, he passed away on December 15, 2021 in the early morning hours. He was preceded in death by his father, Eva McDowell, Sr. and his grandparents, Alex and Gertrude Moore McDowell, Lucy Clemons and Claude Bethany.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his mother, Erma Bethany McDowell; two sisters, Diann Jernigan and Linda McDowell Wallace; two brothers, Evva McDowell, Jr.(Ollie) and Bernard McDowell; two uncles, Leroy Bethany and Clarence McDowell; four aunts, Aline M. Shepard, Helen M. Washington, Marva B. White and Lucy B. Johnson; nieces, Michelle Clemons, Kristal House, Angela Washington, Charissa Scott, Shawn McDowell, Kandy McMurray, Karen Recek, Jessica McDowell, Zeaonna and Laiaireian Wallace; nephews, Jason Huff, Garrick McDowell, Lamar Holmes, Garry Cooper and Simeon Wallace; and a host of cousins, other family and friends.
