Fern Elizabeth (Young) Govan

Fern Elizabeth Young was born September 15, 1932 in Giddings, Lee County, Texas, to Tom Young Jr. and Lillie Mae (White) Young.  She was the tenth of 14 children born to this union.

At an early age, Fern accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and united with Bethel Union Baptist Church.  She continued her Christian journey at Bethel-St. Paul Baptist Church.  She was very active in her church and remained faithful until her health began to decline.

Fern attended grade school in Giddings, and graduated Giddings High School.  She later attended Prairie View A & M University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1986.

On March 30, 1952, she united in matrimony with Lois Elwin Govan.  Two sons were born to this union.

On October 24, 2023, God saw fit to call his dear servant from labor to reward.  She is preceded in death by:  her parents; her husband, Lois Govan; and 13 siblings, Mittie, Verna, Clyde, Lois, Tom Jr., Jewel, Herman, Willie, Milton, Winston, Bobbie, Preston and Bettie.

Left to cherish her loving memories are:  two sons, Elwin Tyrone Govan and Doward Bernard Govan of Giddings, Texas; four grandchildren, Yolanda, Doward, Michael and Ashley; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
