It was on the 30th day of October, 1937 that Francis Marie Denmon Pass came into this world as the first child born to Oughtly and Maggie Denmon in Giddings (Lee County), Texas. As a young child, she was curious and energetic as she frolicked about on the family property. She was fearless, according to the stories she told us about her daily adventures with her white boots with a red star and her favorite dog in her early life.
As Francis (Fran) finished Giddings High School, she enrolled as a Freshman at Prairie View to study nursing for a year. Then she indicated an interest in cosmetology. She attended Hicks Beauty School in San Antonio where she graduated and became a beautician. She was able to practice her craft in various capacities. In 1959, as she met and married the love of her life, Shirley Ray Pass, her career path took on many turns due to military moves. As a result, she was able to work in Florida, Colorado, Texas, and Philippines in sales or as a beautician. This was very fitting because of her exuberant personality and great desire to help others. She greeted everyone with a caring smile and thoughtful words of encouragement.
In addition, Fran’s last employment was at the Texas State School in Giddings as a dorm counselor, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She felt that she made a difference in the lives of the young residents there. Due to her insightful and authentic guidance, student success stories resulted. She retired in 2008. As she now had more time, she turned to a deepened interest in sports – tennis, football, and basketball – that she watched on television.
Her marital union produced two lovely children, Cynthia and Cecil, who she cherished. She and her husband enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends until his death at the young age of 45 after 24 years of marriage. Her attention then turned to floral arranging, which became a passion. She provided arrangements for events such as family reunions, church events, weddings, and anniversaries. She jumped at the opportunity to provide this type of cheer for those who were infirm. In addition, her thoughtfulness was unparalleled as she shopped for others and gave freely.
Francis was devoted to her family and to her spiritual journey. She frequently participated in outreach ministry within the community sharing the word through her affiliation with the West Fresno and the Brazos Bend Kingdom Halls of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Houston area. In addition, she loved to fellowship with others where she brought joy and contentment.
Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Shirley Ray Pass, and her parents, Oughtly and Maggie Denmon. After rather difficult and relentless health challenges, Francis went into eternal rest on Saturday, September 21, 2024. She is survived by her children – daughter, Cynthia Pass Lowe and son, Cecil Pass (Trissy), who will cherish their mother’s memory. Her former son-in-law, Lawerance Lowe, will miss her dearly. Grandchildren - Brooke Lowe Igun (Abiola), Raelyn and Caelan Pass will hold their grandmother’s memory close to their hearts. Great grandchildren, Alexander and Emery will not forget their Granny. Her siblings, Ollie Harnsberry (Winston), Oughtly Denmon, and Carolin Sinkfield (Rick) are comforted by many childhood and grownup memories. Her nephews, Marcus Denmon, Terence, Dell, and Trey Sinkfield, Anthony Harnsberry and niece, Shonna Harnsberry, miss her already. Her great nieces and great nephews – Rylee, Zoey, Ashton, Tyre, Drew, and Avery Sinkfield and Rashad Denmon - enjoyed her presence and love. There are a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will also miss her immensely. May her memory be a source of comfort for us all!
All Floral Arrangements may be sent to the Visitation in Giddings, Texas.
