Gloria Jean Hodge was born on Tuesday, October 6,1953 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Darvel Hodge, Sr. and Mattie Evelyn (Govan) Hodge.
Gloria accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age. She became a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, under the pastorage of Rev. B. F. Langham. You could always hear her singing along with the congregation during worship services on Sundays.
Gloria attended East Central High School in San Antonio where she graduated in the class of 1972. In 1973 she enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 19 years old. While in the military she met and married Jesse Harris, Jr. and this union brought forth one beautiful daughter.
Gloria became a Program Assistant at General Dynamics Corporation in San Diego, California. While there, she furthered her education and earned a bachelor's degree. Her family lived there 15 years before returning to San Antonio, Texas in 1988.
Gloria soon began a career with the U.S. Department of Justice. After 3 years she applied for another position with the agency. This promotion caused her to relocate to Houston, Texas. She studied more and earned her master's degree also while moving on up in her new career. Houston became her permanent home, where she retired after 30 years of dedicated service. In her later years, she began to enjoy her life and activities with those she loved.
Gloria at the age of 69, began her everlasting life with the Lord on August 31, 2023. She is preceded in death by her father, Darvel Hodge, Sr. and her nephew, Matthew Craig.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother, Mattie Evelyn Hodge of San Antonio, Texas; Philip M. Wagner of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Ivy Nycole "Nikki" Harris; two grandchildren, Kristopher Harris of Pearland, Texas and Legacy Harris-Ransom of Houston, Texas; one sister, Lois Darlene Hodge of San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Darvel Hodge, Jr.(Darlene) and John Hodge(Julee) both of San Antonio, Texas, and Delbert Hodge(Gwendolyn) of Sugarland, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
