On October 1, 1937, Ira Leonard Basey was born to proud parents, John and Gertrude (Ewing) Basey in Lee County, Texas.
At an early age, he confessed Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and united with St. Mary's Baptist Church in Ledbetter, Texas. He received his formal education at Post Oak Community School in Lee County, Texas.
Ira united in holy matrimony with Alice Fay Jarmon. He was a dedicated employee at Alcoa in Rockdale, Texas for 30 years where he later retired.
On July 14, 2021, Ira was called home from his earthly walk of life. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice Fay Basey; son, Lyrus Darnell Lewis Basey; siblings, Rosie Lee Alford, Catherine Basey-Wilson, Calvin H. Basey, Sr. and Herbert Basey; and grandsons, Devon Gilmon and Lyrus Darnell Lewis, Jr.
Ira leaves to cherish his sweet memories: his children, Fredrick Basey(Jacklyn) of Ledbetter, Texas, Janet Basey of Ledbetter, Texas, Brenda Basey-Thomas(Kevin) of Huntsville, Texas, Tammy Hudgen(Donald) of Ledbetter, Texas, Regina B. Gilmon of Ledbetter, Texas, Isshia Battee(Bruce) of Ennis, Texas and Chantell Mathis(Ronnie) of Burton, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Dorthy Jean Parker of Littlefield, Texas; daughter-in-law, Sheila Lewis Basey of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Marie Toney of Ledbetter, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
