On Wednesday, July 3, 1985, at 6:00 p.m., at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, Texas, a handsome baby boy entered into the world. Jerrell David Smith, Sr. and Gracie M. (Lovings) Smith were blessed with a son, in whom they found great joy in naming Jerrell David Smith, Jr.
His Christian Work
Jerrell accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pentecostal M.B.C. under the leadership of Pastor Acie Jefferson. While at Pentecostal M.B.C., he sang in the Tiny Tot's and youth choir, and participated in the drill team, Christian soft ball and the Pastor's power hour.
His Education and Career
Jerrell attended Head Start, Sunnyside Elementary School, Crispus Attucks Middle School and Evan E. Worthing Senior High School. He graduated in the class of 2003. He soon furthered his education by attending a technical school. He later found a career as an electrician, in which he continued until his demise. He also worked at NRG Arena as a maintenance technician.
His Hobbies and Interests
Jerrell loved fishing, barbequing and spending time with family and friends. He was a sports fanatic and was a major fan of the Tennessee Titans. His love for agriculture led him to care for horses and cows. He would often go to the hometown of Ledbetter to farm. He was a member of the Southwestern Trail Riders Association.
Jerrell entered into the presence of his Master, on Saturday, September 16, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerrell D. Smith Sr.; paternal grandparents, John and Bernice Smith; maternal grandparents, Jessie and Willie M. Lovings.
Precious memories of Jerrell will live on with: his mother, Gracie M. Smith; one sister, Jenice Smith; two brothers, Kevin A. Lovings(Sylvia) and Jerrell Smith(Tricia); a close friend, Sylvia Taylor; his nieces, Amori Smith, Shaquathia Lovings and Brittany Lovings; his nephews, Kevin Lovings, Tyreek Lovings, Melvin King and Rodrick King; his aunts, Maude Lovings, Emma Burns and Della Hicks; one uncle, Clifford Smith(Sharon); a special cousin, John Carter; and a host of cousins and friends.
