On July 1st 2022, one we knew and loved stepped across the threshold that we call death, but it was only a step into another room in the mansion prepared for those who know and love the Lord. Jimmie Lane Sanders Jr. is in harmony with God now, rejoicing in his happy home.
Jimmie was born December 11, 1977 in Houston, Texas to Jimmy Lane Sanders Sr. Delores Ann Love-Thorne. At an early age, Jimmie accepted Christ at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. He was educated at Meadows Elementary School in Stafford Texas and went on to continue his education graduating from John Foster Dulles High School.
He shared his life with Laurie Sanders and they raised two beautiful children Ya-Sin Bennett and Qamar Muhammad. Affectionately known as “Uncle Scooby”, he doted upon all of his nieces and nephews, imparting his knowledge through his gentle ways of coaching them through difficult life events or supporting all of their sports activities. “Uncle Scooby” graced all of our children with his wisdom, love, and kindness; even more, he imbued them with his humor, selflessness, courage and sense of honor.
“Scooby”, grew up playing football and basketball. Upon graduation from John Foster Dulles High School, he went on to play football at Trinity Valley College before enlisting in the United States Army. As a veteran, like his Grandfather before him, “Scooby” marveled us with the retelling of his adventurous service. As an Army Specialist, his primary MOS was an Equipment Engineer. He served in multiple armed campaigns in Iraq from 2009-2010, prior to his discharge in 2011. After his service in the Army he continued to serve his nation as a DoD Civilian Contractor. He deployed three more times and finally returned home after receiving injuries from shrapnel during a mortar attack. Once he was cleared for duty, he was called again to service as a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agent.
His loving father Jimmy L. Sanders Sr., Grandparents Standford and Lucille Bradley-Sanders, Corine Marie Love-Thorne and Lawrence J. Thorne all preceded him in death.
His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, which includes his mother, Delores Love-Thorne, Houston TX, his step-children, Ya-Sin Bennett and Qamar Muhammad of Houston, TX and his aunt, Shirley Haywood (Charles) of Cedar Creek, TX. He leaves behind four brothers and three sisters: Kurt B. Thorne of Austin, TX, Andrea “Nickie” Wright (Dennis) of College Station, TX, LaMondt Sanders (Kizzy) of Chesapeake, VA, Tamera “Danielle” Sanders of Houston, TX, Pierre “Pete” Sanders of Houston, TX, Angel Green (Jermaine) of Cedar Creek, TX, and Edward Haywood (Crysti) of Prunedale, CA.
