Marshall was born on Thursday, March 11, 1937, son of George Franklin and Sarah Lavata [Mitchell] Francis. He married Charles Etta Jackson on October 26, 1958. Together, they lovingly raised four sons; Elton Ray, Anthony [Tony] Lanier, Michael Keith and Brian Earl Francis. He peacefully received his wings at 10:06 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, in Austin, Texas at the age of 86.
Marshall spent his childhood in Giddings, Texas, in the rural Lee County community of Sweet Home. He graduated as the Salutatorian of the Giddings High School, Class of 1955. He enlisted in the US Air Force [1955] and proudly served his country for 20 years before retiring as a Technical Sergeant in 1975. Marshall was employed at Giddings State Home and School as a supervisor for 21 years. For 20 years, he and his wife were co-owners of C.E.F. Floral business which closed in 1997.
Marshall was a pillar in the community, serving two terms as an elected Giddings School Board member. He was also a member on the City of Giddings Charter Review Board [1982]. On January 23, 2023, the entire Francis Family was recognized by the City of Giddings with a “Service Above Self” Resolution. This proclamation presented by the Honorable Mayor Joel Lopez which declared Tuesday, February 21, 2023 as Marshall & Charles Etta Francis Family Day.
Marshall is preceded in death by his parents, Professor George and Sarah Francis and his eldest son, Elton [Tweety]. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years: Charles Etta Francis; three sons: Tony (Marilyn), Michael (Janel Jefferson), and Brian (Jo), two sisters, one brother, seven grand-children, nine great grand-children, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Marshall will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
