Norma Stapleton Obituary

Norma Rene Hodge was born September 18, 1938 in Thorndale, Texas to proud parents, the late Norman Hodge, Sr. and Paralee (Washington) Hodge.  She was raised in the small Lee County community of Lincoln(Doak Springs, Texas).  At an early age she confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Morning Star Baptist Church, along with her family.

Norma attended Doak Springs School and later graduated from Giddings High School.  She furthered her education at Houston Community College, earning an Associate of Applied Science(with a concentration in Professional Secretary Technology).  She also acquired her certification as a radiology technician from Houston Society of Radiologic Technologists(formerly known as Houston Society of Xray Technicians in June of 1969.

Norma married the love of her life, Charles Edward Stapleton on November 18, 1961.   They together raised a wonderful family, which grew to many generation over the years.

Norma became an active member of First Mount Carmel Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor Luther E. Brown.  She continued to serve under Pastor Allen and also her current leader, Pastor Dallas Blacklock.  She served in the capacity of secretary, also on the usher board, she worked with the children of the Butterfly Choir, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and was a bible study teacher for the youth and young adults.

On Sunday, August 25, 2024, in the early hours of the morning, God called this beautiful soul to sweet rest.  She is preceded in death by:  her husband, Charles E. Stapleton; her parents, Norman and Paralee Hodge; step-son, Charles Edward Stapleton, Jr.; her daughter, Jennifer Stapleton Stephens; her son, Ted Maurice Stapleton; one sister, Yolanda Hodge; one nephew, Lon Beard; and one great-granddaughter, Ja'Nae Short.

An abundance of loving memories will rest in the hearts of:  her children, Lloyd Dixie Stapleton II and Wendy Muriel Stapleton; her loving grandchildren, Meclessia Chanell Randle(Jason), Lucretia Chantell Johnson(Jamarcus), Malia Stapleton, Reginald Austin, Jr., Chadija Stapleton, Lloyd Stapleton III, Charles E. Stapleton III, Gerue Anderson, Travana Short and Terrence Short; great-grandchildren, Behari Cook, Charles E. Stapleton IV, Charlee Stapleton, Khalique Sanders, Kamayah Sanders, Zah'Kaylah Stapleton, Zori Stapleton, Zara Stapleton, Mia Stapleton, Mia Johnson, Vontrel "Cordae" Dickson, Darius Jaelin Dickson, Kaliyah Stapleton, and Saria Johnson; five sisters, Bennie J. Beard, Bobby J. Davis(Jesse), Reathie Turner, Lucielle Bogany(Lester) and Dorothy A. Godsey(Elwyn); two brothers, Norman Hodge, Jr.(Alberta) and Ricky Hodge(Joyce); her adorable pet dog, "Polar" Stapleton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
