Reed Alfred McMillian was born to Reed Alfred Love and Lillie Mae McMillian on December 31, 1964, in Houston, Texas. Reed accepted Christ at an early age and was raised in a home that taught him to know and love the Lord.
Reed attended Phillis Wheatley High School. He served in the U.S. Army for four years as a lightweight vehicle mechanic, receiving an honorable discharge. Pursuing his passion for trucks at the age of twenty-two, Reed became a truck driver for 38 years. His love for driving trucks led him to owning his own trucking company, Grier McMillian Transport LLC (GMT) until his passing.
Reed married Chaniquah Harrell on March 12, 1998, and a precious daughter, Ariana ‘Ari’ Brown was born to this union. At a special time in his life, he met, and married Vanessa Grier on March 5, 2004. They shared twenty-one years of love and laughter together. Two stepchildren, Brittany Washington and Bobby Grier became a part of this union.
Reed worked hard and enjoyed the fruits of his labor. His love for family and generosity towards others will be forever cherished. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband; a concerned and supportive father; and a loving brother and uncle. Utmost the quality that endeared him with all he encountered was his gift of gab, selflessness and refreshing candor.
On Thursday, February 20, 2025, Reed was summoned from his earthly labor to his heavenly reward. Those awaiting his arrival are his parents, Reed Alfred Love and Lillie Mae McMillian; sisters, Ethel Thomas, Rita McMillian, Reversa McMillian, Mary Spence, Bettie Smotherman and Odess Love; and his brothers, Dennis McMillian, Tommy Love, Willie Love and Melvin Love.
Leaving to cherish his memory are: his wife, Vanessa McMillian; his daughter, Ariana ‘Ari’ Brown; stepchildren, Brittany Washington and Bobby Grier; his sisters, Juanita Watson of Crockett, Texas, Charlotte Collins of Hutto, Texas, Doris Love of Crockett, Texas, Bertha Mathews of Houston, Texas and Edith McMillian of Houston, Texas; his brothers, Jerry Love and Frank Love both of Houston, Texas and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
