Hubert T. Jarmon Sr., was born on Saturday, April 15, 1933 in Lexington, Texas to Everlee (Page) and Louis Jarmon. His mother later married Thomas Perry Mitchell Sr., who was of great influence in shaping his life. After graduating from Aycock High School in Rockdale, he was drafted and served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Primarily stationed in Germany, he demonstrated leadership as captain of the basketball team and worked as a tank and truck driver, hauling food and supplies.
Hubert T. Jarmon accepted Christ at an early age and was later called into the Gospel Ministry. After returning from his military service, Hubert began plotting his career path. In 1956 he united in holy matrimony with his high school sweetheart Mary Ella Haynes. Together they shared 23 years of commitment and dedication, raising three wonderful children—Sandra, Debra, and Hubert Jr.—who all graduated from Southwest Texas State University(now Texas State University) in San Marcos, Texas. They lived in Aransas Pass, Texas from 1956-1978, during which his wife completed her nursing degree at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. The family later moved to the Doak Springs Community in Lee County, Texas, where Hubert resided until his passing, leaving a legacy of faith, dedication, and family achievement.
Reverend Hubert T. Jarmon exemplified a remarkable work ethic from a young age. At just 8 years old, he earned money by feeding horses and worked at the auction sale on Saturdays for one dollar($1.00). He received his chauffeur’s license at 15, which set the stage for a lifelong dedication to hard work. He embarked upon a career at Reynolds Aluminum Plant at age 16 and continued there after his military tour in 1956 until his retirement in 1973. Beyond his professional life, he was passionate about ranching and was highly skilled in cattle raising, reflecting his deep connection to agriculture and his versatile talents.
Reverend Hubert T. Jarmon dedicated his life to serving God and his community through his Christian work. He was a long time Pastor and member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Lexington, Texas until his retirement in 2016. He also faithfully served as Pastor at Globe Hill Baptist Church of Giddings, Texas; Mt. Hermon Baptist Church of Cuero, Texas; Providence Baptist Church of Caldwell, Texas; and Mt. Enon Baptist Church of Cheapside, Texas. A life well spent and a life of service to others best describes his character.
