Rose Mary Coleman (“Mom”, “Momma” or “Momma Rose”) passed away at 72 years old with a smile on her face in San Antonio, Texas on February 16, 2023. Rose was a Baptist who accepted Christ at an early age and was no stranger to prayer.
Rose’s greatest pride was her two daughters, Tonja Michele Coleman and Angela Renee Coleman. They will mourn and miss her tremendously. Anytime she talked to anyone, she made a point to tell them how proud she was of her girls. Her favorite saying was that she “had one to protect her mouth (Tonja) & one to protect her health (Angela).” She carefully and loving poured into her girls everything she had and because she did, she believed that they could do anything they put their minds to. She also loved her two little companions “Pax” & “Hermes” and was devastated when they passed away.
Rose was born on July 24, 1950 in Prichard, Alabama. She lived there until the age of 18. She graduated from Mattie T. Blount High School and enlisted in the United States Army. Rose was proud of her service to her country. She separated from the US Army in 1978 and continued her career as a civil service employee for 43 years. The one thing they all her co-workers agreed upon is that “Rose always spoke her mind & she didn’t care who didn’t agree with her.” She retired to her couch where she enjoyed watching tv shows such as ‘Charmed’, ‘The Golden Girls’ & ‘Touched by an Angel’ with her youngest daughter. They could both be heard fussing at the characters and this was one of her favorite pastimes. She enjoyed collecting and trying new recipes and playing solitaire on her devices.
She is survived by three cherished sisters, Alice Murray (Nathaniel), Diana Mabien (Clarence) and Gloria Briggs along with two loved brothers, Rickey Peavy (Rose) and Alfred Peavy (Anne) and preceded in death by her beloved mother and father Lillie Mae Peavy (Autry) and Stanford Peavy, Sr. and cherished siblings, Willie Milton, Jimmie Peavy, Shirley Peavy, Stanford Peavy, Jr., Dwayne Peavy and Timothy Peavy.
She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles whom she loved very much. She maintained a close relationship with her former in-laws Toni Lynn Franklin, Donathan Williams and Treyvette Armstrong.
Finally, she leaves behind a whole host of close friends who enriched her life tremendously.
