On April 22, 1941 in Bedias, Grimes County, Texas, a beautiful baby girl was born by the name of Ruby Nell Samuels to Novaita Samuels and B.A. Loud. She was educated in the public schools of Texas City, Texas and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1960.
Ruby accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church of Hitchcock, Texas under the leadership of Dr. William L. Randall Jr.
She was employed at NASA Johnson Space Center for over twenty years as a maintenance supervisor.
Ruby married the love of her life, Walter E. Powell, MSG U.S. Army Retired on October 26, 1984. They were happily married for 38 years.
On November 14, 2022, Mrs. Ruby Nell Powell answered the call from her Lord and Savior. Waiting to meet her was her mother, Novaita Roach; father, B.A. Loud; grandfather, Henry Samuels; grandmother, Roberta Samuels; and her sisters, Eddye Jewel Hawkins and Bettye Carol Scott.
Memories of Ruby will be cherished by: her beloved husband, Walter E. Powell; three loving children, Christopher Samuels, Novaita (Thomas) Sanders and Denise (Ronnie) Brown; sisters, Charlene Curry-Drake, Vahnita Loud and Wanda Loud; her bonus daughters, Michelle Powell and Lynn Powell; and one sister-in-law, Jacqueline Powell. She also leaves behind the loves of her life, her grandsons, Henry Haynes, III, Desmond Haynes and Derrick Sanders; granddaughters, DiNona McCray, Tiffany Sanders, Heather Long and Ashley Sanders; great-grandsons, Michael Hill and Jaylen Sanders; a host of nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.
