Tomathan McGinnis Obituary

“Hello, Beautiful You. I’m basking in you. I love and adore you.”-Tomathan McGinnis

It is with incredible sorrow that we announce the passing of Tomathan Mikeolan McGinnis, a soul of many gifts. Tomathan was born on May 1st, 1978, and transitioned out of this life, too soon, on Saturday, July 19th, 2025. Through his short journey of 48 years, he touched many lives with his endless talent, effortless love, and eternal light.

Tomathan’s was a story of strength and renewal. He had a passion for the arts and for communing with people. This spirit, which characterized his life, also translated into the dedicated energy he imparted to those he loved, cherished, and advocated for.

Among the many milestones of a life well-lived, Tomathan served his country with honor in the United States Navy, carrying that same quiet strength into every chapter of his life. A proud brother of Kappa Alpha Psi, he moved through the world with purpose, dignity, and heart. With a voice that could hush a room and roles that lit up the screen, he brought stories to life in over 15 films and short features. But his artistry didn’t end on stage, he poured his soul into every dish as the visionary behind Kitchen Bonez, where his love for people was served one plate at a time. When not creating or performing, Tomathan found peace and joy in fishing, a passion that connected him deeply to nature and offered quiet moments of reflection.

Tomathan believed deeply in the power of growth and learning. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Edward Waters University in 2009 and went on to receive a Master’s in Business and Finance from American Intercontinental University in 2015. Ever the dedicated artist, he later refined his craft through specialized training at Actor’s District and ATL Stunts in Atlanta, where he studied wire work, tactical movement, and stage combat—adding depth and discipline to his natural performance talent.

Tomathan’s humor, dynamic charisma, and magnetism will be remembered by all who knew him. His remarkable flair will forever be an inspirational testament to the power of a gorgeous spirit fueled by resilience and grace.

He leaves behind a silence deeply felt and an eternally cherished presence. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the love, joy, and kindness that were the essence of Tomathan’s being.

He is survived by his siblings: Tré Yett, Precious Yett-Lopez, and Gabriel Yett. Though Tomathan grew up in Giddings, Texas, he spent his final years in Atlanta, Georgia, embracing new opportunities and communities that reflected his dynamic spirit. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family and all who mourn his departure.

A memorial service celebrating his exceptional life will be held on August 9, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Bethel St. Paul United Baptist Church. We invite all who knew and loved Tomathan to join us in honoring his memory.
