Verlee (Colvin) Ray

Verlee Colvin Ray (Grandma V, Aunt Verlee and Sister) was born March 9, 1935 in Lee County, Texas. She was the first of five children born to Aaron Colvin and Amanda (Simpson) Colvin.
 
Verlee accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at an early age. Later in life she joined Post Oak Baptist Church, where she remained a dedicated member and true servant until the church closed. She then united with St. Mary’s Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her health began to fail. 
Verlee received formal education in the community school.  She furthered her education by attending Prairie View A&M University, where she studied economics.   She met and married the late Onnie Ray Jr. and made the Post Oak Community her home. To this marriage five children were born: Winford, Gerald, Sheryl, Darryl and Dwayne.  
Her favorite pass time was gardening, sewing and swapping recipes with her (special sister) Versie Lee Colvin Cooper. She always looked forward to the weekend calls from her sister and her brothers, stopping by to let her know they were home.
On Monday, November 8, 2021, God called her home.  She was preceded in death by:  her parents, Aaron and Amanda Colvin; her husband, Onnie Ray, Jr.;  and two sons, Darryl Ray and Dwayne Ray.
Verlee leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Winford Ray(Sandra) of Ledbetter, Texas, Gerald Ray(Wanda) of Cypress, Texas, and Sheryl Mathis of Ledbetter, Texas; five grandchildren,  Cedric, Brandon, Sheree, Stephanie and Kim; six great grandchildren, Jada, Breon, Breonna, Quentin, Brayden and Zorica; one great-great granddaughter, Taylar; three sisters, Billie Jean Newburn of San Antonio, Texas, Deloris Batiste of Texas City, Texas and Joyce Pleasant of Ledbetter, Texas; two brothers, Willie Lee Colvin, Sr.(Rose) and David James Colvin both of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends. She will very much be missed by all who knew her. Rest easy Mother we truly love you forever in our hearts.
